You’re in San Diego and want shaved ice, but don’t have the time or money to go to Hawaii. What do you do?

Drive up to North County to Wahine Kai Shaved Ice in Poway. It’s the closest thing you’ll get to the real thing.

They’re known for their “Bird of Paradise” which is mango and pineapple flavored shaved ice sprinkled with LiHing Mui powder over coconut pineapple ice cream (left). I’m not sure who invented this creation but I fell absolutely in looove and I’m pretty picky when it comes to shaved ice too.The only thing I didn’t like was that I had to go through that mountain of ice to get to the ice cream. I like eating my shaved ice and ice cream together. So when I got to the ice cream, I only had like some shaved ice left over.

Oh, and I forgot what my friend got but it was pretty yummy too.

Try this place out if you wanna get away and get lost in a cup of ice one time. The place is small, but cozy. It’s all decked out and you sort of feel like you really are in Hawaii. Plus, the staff was really friendly!
