I’m originally from San Diego and I am spoiled by what I think is the BEST Mexican food. Honestly, I get disappointed every time I try Mexican food in LA. I actually would rather eat Taco Bell or Del Taco (sorry, not sorry).
There’s this great hole in the wall in downtown Los Angeles called La Reyna. It’s funny because I’ve actually been in this restaurant before my friend recommended it to me and made me eat there lol. The first time was on a lunch break, but we ended up not eating there because it was cash only. Plus, it looked super sketchy in there. I know that a lot of amazing food places come out of spots that look like this. Not only did it look sketchy, but it looked like they were half open? Or they were about to go out of business? I don’t know. It’s really weird to describe.
Then one day my friend is talking about this taco spot near Pizzanista and I’m wondering if it was the same as La Reyna? And it is! I was craving tacos pretty bad so I decided to give it another try…. And I am so glad I did. I think it would be my favorite spot to get Mexican food in LA. I was there in the evening and they were only serving burritos, quesadillas and tacos, but they do offer a bigger menu including breakfast during the day.
Lesson of the day: Don’t judge a book by it’s cover!
